Are you a writer, artist, or photographer in Northwest Florida who wants to get your work and your name out there?

We'd be honored if you shared your work with the Longleaf.

We are a community-driven regional publication covering the area between Walton County and Franklin County. The Longleaf refers to itself as a "cultural preservation journal."

This publication allows the artists and writers of northwest Florida to tell the story of a changing landscape. While your work will largely be hosted digitally, we aim to publish a print edition once we have enough content.

Do you want your work to be part of something greater? Send us an email:

## Vision

We want to empower writers, photographers, artists, and citizen journalists across the Florida Panhandle by giving them a professional publication in which they can share their work.

We are looking for long-form reads that explore local topics, issues, people, businesses, and more. In a world where we’re constantly crushed by news, we want to be anything but.

Tight editorial guidelines, a ban on AI-generated content, and building strong relationships with local writers will ensure each edition is packed with high-value, unique, and human-generated material.

We seek to cover all the underserved communities between 30A and Carrabelle. We will accept writing either based on or from Walton, Washington, Holmes, Jackson, Bay, Calhoun, Gulf, Liberty, Franklin, and Gadsden counties. This is a coverage area of 434,902 people.

## Imagined business plans

(We're working on it.)

We will be filing as a for-profit simply because that is easier and faster to get this off the ground. Original funds will either come from my pocketbook or sponsors.

We rely on volunteer, non-staff writers from the community. If we are able to obtain a significant grant, generate ad sales, or find willing community sponsors, we aim to compensate our writers with a % of print sales and digital views.

When we have a word count from accepted submissions that warrants a print edition, that is when we will create the print edition. We will cap this at bi-monthly, but each printed edition will be a coffee-table book that is filed with the library and local universities. We would ideally obtain an ISBN or ISNN.

If the enterprise becomes successful enough, it may warrant hiring staff writers or publishers. Each printed edition will be custom-designed by editors and have a unique artistic flair.

We will redesign advertisements to meet the aesthetics of the publication, sort of an unpolished 1920’s letterpress DIY style route.

I will have someone working on sales to get the publication into local hotels, doctor’s offices, and just anywhere where people have to sit and wait.

The goal is to be an institutional community publication that will outlast our writers and end up in useful archives for future historians and journalists.
